This is, for all intents and purposes, a big moment for RhiRhi.
RIHANNA LOVE ON THE BRAIN (Roc Nation)
First and foremost she caught me totally off guard with the excellent album Anti, where she for the very first time managed to create a full body of work and it was raw, nonchalant, sexy, defiant and a true powder keg.
Then there’s this one track, Love On The Brain, that has grown stronger for every time I’ve listened to it, making quiet punches from the sidelines, not bragging about its apparent brilliance, while slightly arrogantly aware of it and it’s beautiful. That midtempo, slow burning 50’s doo-wop feel is so smoldering, so sultry and subtle, with RhiRhi’s enticing and nuanced vocals as the cherry on top.
Add to that the amazing live performance she gave at Billboard Music Awards where the roof definitely blew off. Perfectly intertwined with the sensual production, Ms. Fenty not only gives an emotional, raw performance that is intoxicating, but she totally took her artistry to the next level.
